Lights on, Lights off
Lighting is a topic that can be either as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. For those of you who wish for it to remain simple, there's some simple faders that make lights turn on and off. For those who wish for lighting to be complicated, there's a whole world of lighting design, colour theory, and programming waiting for you. Before scaring you too much, let's approach the tip of the iceberg: using the pre-built show.
The Show
<picture>
This is the lighting console. There are 4 faders here to worry about, and all you need to do is bring them up and down.
- Pre/Post
This fader contains no stage light, and is a simple walk in/walk out preset to add some ambient colour to the stage. Useful for pre/post service, as the name implies. - Worship
This fader brings up full stage light, along with a background look. It's quite simple, but it's enough to indicate "this is worship". - Sermon
The sermon look shouldn't be used at the same time as the worship look, because the lights interfere with each other. Try to fade between the two looks instead of bringing them both up. The sermon look also contains a minimum level of house lights so that the preacher can see the congregation. - House
The House fader simply brings the house lights up and down. It should be high for pre/post service, but brought down to dark during the service.
That's it! That's the entire lighting role. You can stop reading here if that seems complicated enough. If you'd like to do more complicated work, keep reading!
